  1. Rio Grande National Forest Fire Restrictions Lifted - July, 2011

MONTE VISTA – The Rio Grande National Forest has removed fire restrictions effective Friday, July 15th.  Recent moisture has reduced the fire danger throughout the middle and upper elevations of the forest.  Fire danger is still high in much of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the lower elevations of the San Luis Valley.  Stage 1 fire restrictions are still in place on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service.
Visitors to the Rio Grande National Forest are reminded to continue to be careful with fire and to make sure campfires are completely extinguished before leaving an area.

  2. State officials seize Saguache County Credit Union - July, 2011

    The Denver Business Journal wrote:

Colorado’s Division of Financial Services assumed control of Saguache County Credit Union on Friday because of what officials called its deteriorating financial condition.

The National Credit Union Administration has been appointed conservator for the credit union and will operate it “for the foreseeable future,” a state annoucement said.

The credit union, with 3,165 members, has offices in Moffat, Crestone and Center, in the upper San Luis Valley of southern Colorado.

Its branches will remain open and members can carry out transactions as usual, state officials said. Deposits are insured through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund up to $250,000.

Saguache has about $17.7 million in assets.
