According to a press release from the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Anthony Traves Smith of Crestone was taken into custody June 24 on rape charges. Deputy Wayne Clark of the SCSO took a report from a Saguache County woman which gave the deputy sufficient evidence to call in Saguache County victim advocate, Ellen Cox who assisted the victim  and took her to a medical facility for an examination. When Deputy Clark contacted Smith he told the deputy that he “had a few drinks” the night the alleged sexual assault occurred. Smith was transported to the Saguache County Jail where he was booked on rape charges. His bail is set at $50,000 cash/surety. He was scheduled to appear in county court on June 28.
