Gangteng Drupchen Festival 2020

September 19, 2020 September 26, 2020

Dear Friends in the Dharma, H.H. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche is conducting the annual Gangteng Drupchen (Great Accomplishment) Festival this month in Bhutan. This year’s Drupchen will be the Lama Norbu Gyatso Drupchen (Guru Rinpoche) and will be led by Gangteng Rinpoche, along with 400-500 monks. The Drupchen is a traditional form of meditation retreat and an intensive practice that epitomizes the depth, power, and precision of Vajrayana Buddhism. The Drupchen includes continuous all-day and all-night sadhanas that last for at least 7 days. The ultimate benefit of participating in these sadhanas is enlightenment. The immediate benefit is healing, purification of obstacles and negativity, saving lives, and generating good fortune. On the occasion of this special event, His Holiness Gangteng Rinpoche shares these details about this year’s Drupchen: The annual Gangteng Drupchen will be starting from 19th of September till 26th of September 2020 (Bhutan time). During this time, there will be various puja ceremonies being performed in different shrine rooms in Gangteng Monastery as mentioned below: 1. Guru Tshengye Temple (eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche): Lama Norbu Gyastso’s (Guru Rinpoche) Drupchen will be performed in this Temple. 2. Machen Lhakhang: Kunzang Gongpa Kuendue’s Drupchoe 3. Mahakala Temple: There will be performing of Soelkha (Mahakala puja) in three different Mahakala shrine rooms.  These religious functions and recitations are aimed at honoring world peace and prosperity for all sentient beings and prayers for the COVID-19 pandemic to be cured sooner. The COVID-19 pandemic has created great misfortune throughout the world. These prayers are dedicated mostly for those who have suffered from the pandemic and to the ones who have lost their lives to this deadly disease. During the Drupchen continuous butter lamps and tsoks will be offered to enable the accumulation of good merit in life and for the betterment and well-being of all sentient beings on this earth. Therefore, all interested individuals are encouraged to make their own prayers and wishes to gain merit and longevity for yourself, for your family members, and for everyone around you. These religious offerings and prayers will be followed by the well-known festival of Gangteng Tshechu, which will be from 27th  of September till 1st of October (Bhutan time).
