Social Fabric Café

January 23, 2021 All day

Please accept this warm invitation to join in on Crestone’s first Reweaving the Social Fabric Café led by our Peace on Earth by 2030 Game and Peace on Earth (POE) Zone Leaders, coming up this month!

In these intensely divided days, where friends and families are wondering how to hold onto one another in the face of such differing political views, public shame and ridicule for having dissimilar opinions, and a seemingly huge gulf to cross in order for both sides to hear and receive one another’s feelings and needs around current affairs, Reweaving the Social Fabric Café is here to bridge those gaps with a strong focus on remembering the common ground we all share, while developing bonds of community support and innovation from there.

This is a journey for those who wish to take actions towards a beautiful vision we can co-create for our community, co-developing viable solutions with the infinite creativity and natural abundance life and love have to offer.

As mentioned in last month’s article, Reweaving the Social Fabric Café is partnered with the Peace On Earth By 2030 Games, with Crestone birthing five of the international pilot teams of the peace game and the Second Peace on Earth POE Zone on the planet!

In previous Good News Report articles, we’ve written about the effective solutions the teams on the pilot peace game have already created for our community. The Peace Teams have contributed to the co-creation of the Crestone Garden Initiative, which, for one has brought into being an initiative of cooperation for common good focused on “Curing Hunger in Crestone’” and becoming locally organic food resilient. This initiative has brought nine organizations together working towards this mission and raising grant funds and community support. We helped grow the beautiful community garden with CBR Food Resilience Group hosted at the Little Shepherd Church in town, the Crestone Town Hall garden site, and 3 other private sites, all donating food to Food Bank, volunteers, and those in need in our community.  The Food Bank’s inventory has been greatly increased and access to food increased to all in need on a more frequent basis. Some other meaningful solutions that have been supported through our non-profit efforts are: the on-going garden festival and resource center, and well attended workshop events; food home delivery program for elders via CERT; meaningful mentorships of youth and young adults and vocational skills training; and supporting the annual community Thanksgiving meal.

Coupled with the great accomplishments we experienced in 2019 and 2020, we see a great need for this next step for our community—the Reweaving the Social Fabric Café, slated for January 23, 2021, the third Saturday in January. Come and discuss challenges, build a compelling vision together and start to discover how we can use planning, implementation processes, good communication, restorative unifying practices and conflict resolution, and a fun game that is not just a game to create a Crestone Impact Mission together. All are welcome, but please come prepared to set aside that which separates us and go into active discovery of what our shared vision can be so we can work towards it better together.

As an aside, with the Crestone Garden Initiative, we’re also needing to gather funds, resources, and volunteer support for the food resiliency and “Curing Hunger” goals. We would like to grow to having gardens and greenhouses on 5 additional donated properties. We would like to get a community commercial kitchen for food processing and canning operations. We also need to expand food storage for the food Bank. Any volunteering and/or donations, (including non-cash assets, specifically land and/or buildings which would bring significant tax deductions), are encouraged and welcome.

It’s amazing how good we feel when we give to causes dear to our hearts, get involved and share our time and skills, and connect with others doing the same! It’s time! Join us to go to the next level of this fun impact mission!
