Saguache County— On September 19,sAt 10:25 AM, the Colorado State Patrol in Alamosa was notified of a two car crash that occurred on Colorado 285 Milepost 106, near Villa Grove in Saguache County. Mary Hanson, 68, of Mesa, AZ was driving a 2005 Saturn Vue southbound on Colorado 285 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 1983 Audi station wagon on its left side. The Audi was being driven by Alexander Hobson, 21, of Salida. After impact the Saturn came to rest in the southbound lane facing southeast. The Audi separated into two pieces and came to rest off the east side of the road. A 20 year old female passenger from Moffat that was in the left rear seat was ejected and died on scene as a result of her injuries. Hanson was transported via helicopter to Colorado Springs for her injuries. Hobson was flown to Penrose with life threatening injuries.

The other passengers in the Audi, Daniel Lopez, unknown age, and Wilmer Barrientos, 23 of Salida were transported to Heart of the Rockies in Salida. Barrientos was later released from the hospital. Lopez was flown to Penrose in Colorado Springs. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. The crash caused the closure of Colorado 285 for several hours while troopers were on scene. The accident remains under investigation. The name of the female party that died is being withheld pending official notification of next of kin.
