One person was killed and two others injured when a small plane crashed at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve on June 8th. San Luis Valley resident, Richard Cutter, from Monte Vista has been identified as the victim in the plane crash. The two other individuals are in stable condition in regional medical centers but their names are not being released at this time.
The investigation is still underway by the National Park Service, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the Federal Aviation Administration. The Medano Pass Primitive Road is closed until the investigation is completed. All other areas of the national park and preserve remain open.
The National Park Service will release additional information as it becomes available.
