Public hearing Dec. 8 to consider vacating CO Road 67.5 near Crestone for land swap
by Sandia Belgrade
There is a proposal to exchange roads, one owned by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the Baca Wildlife Refuge (USFWS) that accesses the Baca Grande subdivision and a road presently located in the Wildlife Refuge that had been in the Luis Maria Baca grant prior to the refuge’s creation. The parcels are approximately equal in value. USFWS will trade for a road near the old air strip in the wildlife refuge. It goes nowhere. The county will gain a road that begins at Spanish Creek Trail in the Baca subdivision, meets up with the Aspen Lagoon access road and exits on Road T. This road has not been maintained past the Aspen Lagoon; yet, once serviced by the county, it will serve as an alternate access/ exit road to and from the Baca. In an emergency it will give Baca residents a vital second road.  Presently only the main road, Camino Baca Grande, is available which could conceivably result in a bottle neck with people desperate to get out. The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 10:30 AM Saguache County Courthouse Commissioners meeting room located at 501 – 4th Street, Saguache, Colorado.

Written comments will be accepted until Friday, December 4, 2015 and may be sent to Saguache County Land Use Department at PO Box 326, Saguache, CO 81149 or emailed to wmaez@saguachecounty-co.gov.
