Location            Red Mountain Ranch, Rio Grande National Forest, 15 Miles South to SW of Creede, Red Mountain Creek

IC            Unified Command, Dave  Carr, Rio Grande National Forest; Robert Hosselkus, Mineral County

Size            75 acres

Containment            25%  No date for expected containment.

Fuel            Aspen, beetle-kill spruce

Fire behavior            Individual tree torching, creeping ground fire

Structures            No loss. No damage. Three houses, several out buildings threatened.

Closures             Temporary flight restriction surrounding burn area. FSR 523, Love Lake Road, FSR 528 Ivy Creek Rd, Ivy Creek Campground, Love Lake camping area.

Evacuations            Spar City and Sowards Ranch put on alert.

Cause            Started on private land. Cause is under investigation.

Personnel            70 personnel from RGNF, Mineral County, CO Dept of Fire Protection and Control, San Juan and Roosevelt Hotshots

Equipment            2 type 6 engines, county type 4 engine, type 3 helicopter, type 2 helicopter

Strategy            Cooperating with using combination of direct and indirect tactics to minimize fire growth and protect structures while providing for firefighter and public safety.

“I don’t expect any further growth of this fire as long as the weather continues to cooperate,” said Joint Incident Commander, Dave Carr. “The smoke from this fire may be visible for several days though as interior pockets continue to burn.”
